Ian touched on some defenses to consider so I will skip over those and I never spend a late amount of time on kicker so let’s talk about our narrowed down list of core plays.
If your favorite player isn’t listed it’s not that I think that it’s a bad play, it just means that he didn’t make me final roster cuts. This can be for many reasons such as price, game theory, and or for lack of better term it didn’t fit my roster construction. In addition, I will try to draw some attention some players that may not be getting as much fanfare
I will list chalk plays but won’t dig into these plays so much as they are obviously good plays. Shall we begin
Aaron Rodgers $8300
If I’m spending up this is where I’m headed. The game vs Seattle is projected to be close and I personally see a scenario where Rodgers may have to drop back 40-50 times as I expect the Green Bay running game to be ineffective. Consider stacking with Randall Cobb (I’ll explain in a minute)
Carson Wentz $7100
This play is definitely not a cash game play.
I’m not sure I’ll go here myself, but this game against the Washington Redskins should be one of the more competitive games on the slate. I will not stack him with anyone save maybe Zach Ertz as most of his wide receivers are new and I expect Josh Norman to shadow Alshon Jeffrey. That being stated Zach Ertz last year was not a touchdown machine last year I can’t see stacking Wentz with anyone in particular and would choose to deploy him naked as a result
Carson Palmer $7300
This pick requires a leap of faith. If you expect Detroit to play like it did at the beginning of last season ( they were a top 5 pace of play team at the start of last season)
Then I can see a scenario where Arizona will have a lot of extra possessions to work against a suspect secondary. In addition, Detroit was one of the worst teams in the league covering running backs out of the backfield ( David Johnson Anyone)
Leveon Bell / David Johnson get one or both in your cash games and move on
Demarco Murray $7700
Oakland flying cross country for a 1 pm start with a terrible front seven vs one of the best offensive lines in football sign me up. I expect Murray to receive a full work load as it’s opening day and although I believe Derrick Henry will steal carries later in the season today is not the day
LeSean McCoy $8500
Buffalo primary, secondary, and tertiary offensive choices. He may just lead the team in targets as well against a pathetic Jets team that is already tanking the season. In addition Buffalo cut McCoy s primary back up last week
Christian Mccaffery $6500
Dream matchup vs the 49ers who are terrible vs the run. He will have heavy involvement in the passing game and supposedly has his own playbook. Very intriguing play as far as I’m concerned.
Warning I’m a big fan of the mid tier
Larry Fitzgerald $6400
Flat out priced wrong. Yes, I know Father Time is catching up to him but it’s week one so tired legs shouldn’t be an issue. In addition, Quadry Diggs will be responsible for coverage and he grades out as one of the worst cornerbacks in the NFL.
Doug Baldwin $7500
The man is a machine and I foresee Seattle not being able to run the ball vs Green Bay.
I expect Baldwin to be target early and often in one the most competitive games on the slate
Martavis Bryant $6500
Dream match up vs Cleveland and I expect Big Ben to try to get him involved. It’s not unreasonable to expect 5-7 targets with red zone usage. In addition, Cleveland has to work with Bell and Brown which may lead to easier matchups for Bryant. Cheap exposure to the Pittsburgh offense
Randall Cobb $5900
Jordy Nelson $7700
I like both as I believe Devante Adams gets the Richard Sherman treatment and if Rodgers is forced to pass this much they should be the recipients
I’m also very interested in Terrell Pryor, Michael Crabtree and Kelvin Benjamin but I can’t write up everyone.
I’m fan of paying up if Ertz goes off I lose it’s that simple
Delanie Walker $6100
Last year Defense couldn’t cover the tight end position to save their life. In addition, Mariota has a lot of new wide receiver to throw to so by default Walker may get more target by default
Jimmy Graham $6200
See Doug Baldwin, Jordy Nelson, and Randall Cobb same reasoning no need to go any further
Jordan Reed $7100
The man is injured and in a perceived bad match up. Yes, Philadelphia is very tough on the tight end position but Jordan Reed is more like a receiver anyway. In addition, Kirk Cousins has all new receivers basically and he has s great rapport with Reed. Last but not least Reed is probably top 3 at his position so I get a great player at low ownership. Seems like a great tournament play.
Defense to consider
Sneaky defense Atlanta
I’ll explain. By halftime, if everything goes as projected Chicago should be significantly behind rendering Jordan Howard as an after thought. Chicago will become one dimensional and forced to throw potentially leading to sacks and interceptions. Again a nice low owned gpp upside play
That’s a wrap
Good luck in your contests
